Paintings 5 & 6 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days

Cold is gripping most of the eastern half of the country, including here in South Carolina.  It was in the low 20s when we woke up this morning and it only got about 10 degrees higher than that by this afternoon.  With the wind blowing off the water, it is very very chilly.  And that made it a good day to paint - so today I present to you #5 and #6 of my 30 Paintings in 30 Days.

Today's first painting was meant to be abstract.  Somewhere along the way, I think it crossed over the line.  As I was painting it, I wondered "just what is abstract?".  Is it just "unrecognizable"?  Obviously, this is something I need to keep working on.

Low Tide, Winter Marsh
6" x 6", oil on birch board
The second painting today is of last night's sunset - which was beyond amazing. We were in the car, only about 1/2 mile from our house, when the sky looked like this.  My painting just plain doesn't capture the intensity, so I'm including my husband's photo, too.

As I continue on my journey in this Challenge, I can see that painting "more abstractly" is going to take a bit more work!!

Thanks for stopping by.  Hope you are warm, wherever you are!

Just love the second painting, so peaceful and well constructed.

The sunset is absolutely amazing. Never seen anything like it. So so difficult to paint.
