Carolina Wrens

Another week has slipped by without much painting time.  The weather has been gray and cold and snowing and I find it all a bit much to take this late in the season.  Guess I'm just over winter.  Our mini-irises and crocuses are in full bloom and the daffodils are getting ready to open.  Spring is so pretty here in the mountains, I'm impatient.

Earlier this week, I painted these Carolina Wrens.  You may remember that I painted Carolina Wrens in January during the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge.  That painting was done for the Toe River Arts Council postcard exhibit.  So, since those wrens have flown out the door, I decided to paint another pair.  These are painted on a 5" x 5" stretched canvas with a 1 1/2" depth.  I love these little canvases, because I can sit them on a shelf or hang them on a wall.  And the little birds painted on these canvases look pretty cute sitting in various places around our house.  Almost like bringing the outside in.

These were painted while sitting at my drafting table, which is in front of a window.  Just outside that window are barrels of kindling wood for our fires.  While I was painting, there were a pair of Carolina Wrens exploring the sticks and branches.  That was fun - having live models right there!

One of my goals this winter was to create some "buy now" buttons so that I can sell work directly and easily from this blog.  As you can see, I haven't done that yet, but if you are interested in this painting (or any others), please feel free to shoot me an email.   (and one more snowstorm and I just may get that button done!)

I've got another 20" x 16" painting in progress on my studio easel and I can't wait to finish it!  Not an animal portrait this time and I'm keeping it a secret till it is done.  <grin>

Thanks for stopping by!
