Citrus fruit is abundant in our supermarket in the winter time. Now that I don’t live in the “land of sunshine”, I find that citrus fruits help make up for the lack of abundant sunshine here in the mountains. I gathered up a group of three types of citrus for this painting - a ruby red grapefruit, a ruby red orange and a tangerine. As you can see, the grapefruit was almost more of a triangle shape than round. (note to self: paint what you see, not what you know)

Painting oranges and grapefruits makes for a good painting exercise. The shapes are simple, which allows one to spend more time concentrating on color. I especially liked the purple shadow on the grapefruit in this painting.
