Prince Edward Island

We've been on Prince Edward Island since Monday, and yesterday was the first day that the wind wasn't blowing 20 knots and/or it wasn't raining.  There are beautiful sights to paint everywhere here.  We headed over to French River, where there is a pull out and a gorgeous view and I finally got to paint!

I've included a photo of the scene I was painting from - and a photo of my painting - which isn't quite finished.  That will just have to wait till I get home. There are lots of tiny windows to paint - on both the buildings and the boats.

Among the challenges I faced while painting was a very large and hungry population of mosquitos.  They found me about an hour after I started painting and fed on me for about 1/2 hour, then apparently got full and moved on!  But... then the tour buses started arriving.  That was something I hadn't expected!  The tourists on the buses (not those great big buses, but more like large vans), were filled with Japanese tourists.  They were very excited to see me painting.  Lots of great smiles and praise (they were very kind).  I prefer painting where there are no people at all.  I'm just not much of an exhibitionist!  And here I was part of the entertainment.

my unfinished painting (6" x 8", oil on paper)

Normally when I paint scenes, I avoid buildings.  Too scary!!  But I couldn't resist this view.  I'll work on this more when we get back.  I think it is a pretty good start and won't take too much more to finish it off.  Once I do, I'll be sure to post it.

Tomorrow, we leave Prince Edward Island and head to Nova Scotia. There is a tropical storm on the way, so we may be hunkering down somewhere and trying to stay dry.

Thanks so much for stopping by.....
